Active XML: embedding Web services into XML
XML and Web services are revolutioning the automatic management of distributed information, somewhat in the same way HTML, Web browser and search engines modified human access to world wide information. To illustrate, we present Active XML (AXML) that is based on embedding Web service calls inside XML documents. We consider the problems raised by the approach and results we obtained. In particular, we consider typing issues raised by the exchange of AXML documents, query evaluation in the presence of embedded service calls, and issues related to security and access control.
